The critics may hate the Venom movies, but fans keep turning out for Tom Hardy at the box office.
As a result, the third and final film in Sony’s Spider-Man villain spin-off is set to arrive in cinemas tomorrow.
Venom: The Last Dance once again sees Hardy’s Eddie team up with his alien symbiote Venom, but they’re on the run this time.
As it stands, Venom 3 has 37 per cent positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, which is more than the original but less than the first sequel, Let There Be Carnage.

It’s a delightfully deranged dual performance by Hardy that doesn’t get enough credit in the greater comic-book movie canon, even if in this one the cartoonish violence is turned down in favor of forced sentimentality.

Last Dance seems almost begging to solely be watched on airplanes, in the soporific 90 minutes between dinner service and uneasy, upright sleep. It functions best as an accidentally found object rather than something deliberately sought out.

The Venom movies are a lark and nothing more, geared to the arrested pleasure centers of fanboys: the more snark and CGI the better.
