Drying washing indoors during the winter is hard, especially when you have no access to a tumble dryer.
This is made even harder if your home is to prone to mould, which can be made even worse when drying washing.
This can be combated with ventilation, but it still doesn’t help with drying washing.
Last year, I started to use a dehumidifier, and it has completely changed the game for me.

Not only does it help to reduce window condensation and prevent mould, but it also dries my washing in six to eight hours.
It barely makes a difference to energy bills, costing just pennies to run.
The aim of a dehumidifier is to reduce excess moisture in the air, and all of the ones I’ve tried are effective at doing so.
They collect water which needs to be emptied on a regular basis if you’re using it often.
Due to clothes drying faster with a dehumidifier, there is also no risk of damp-smelling laundry which is often a problem in winter.
My clothes also dry in a matter of hours, especially when using the laundry mode on my specific device.
To use the device to dry my laundry, I simply place a drying rack in the smallest room of my home and place the dehumidifier close to the airer.
I then spread the clothes out evenly on the airer, making sure there was enough ventilation.
If the heating is on, I will leave the curtains open to help the laundry, but if it is off, I’ll draw them.
I tend to run this overnight so my laundry is dry in the morning and close the door to create an enclosed area.
Other than in the summer when clothes can be dried outside, I haven’t used many other methods since my dehumidifier works incredibly well.
Whilst they are an initial investment, it was worth every penny to ensure no mould would start to grow.
There are many on the market, but many I’ve tried don’t have a laundry setting which boosts the fan to lower the humidity faster.
