Brit mum steps into American Walmart for first time – and is absolutely horrified

A British woman has documented her horror during a first visit to Walmart in America. Her video, which has gone viral on TikTok,saw her point out firearms and ammunition being sold right next to children’s nightlights.

The creator started off by pointed out the variety of items available in American supermarkets. She was mesmerised by the products ranging from Dolly Parton cake mix to a large selection of frosting flavours.

But things took a turn when she came across an archery target in the shape of a bear. Then she walked towards what she described as “the worst bit”.

In the video the woman expressed her disbelief as she casually stumbled upon a section of guns and bullets ready to buy while browsing the aisles.

In the video, she said: “And then we get to the aisle. If you just fancy coming and purchasing a weapon with bullets, you can do. “And then I’m standing here looking at the guns. And then here’s your kids’ nightlight. America, you okay?”

The guns themselves appeared to be behind a glass cabinet, but the video appeared to show a specific desk within the store for potential customers to enquire.

Her reaction has sparked a flurry of responses, with many agreeing that the weapons next to children’s items was alarming.

One TikTok user commented: “The guns in the middle of Walmart was the craziest thing I ever saw when I went to Vegas ??????????????????.”

Another added: “When we went last year, my mind was blown because there was a machete for sale—in cardboard packaging—but SD cards for cameras were in plastic casing. Like where’s the logic?”

The video has reignited discussions around gun culture in the US and how it differs from norms in other countries.

The sight of weapons in a retail setting like Walmart can be a huge culture shock for those unfamiliar with the US, where the sale of guns is common in many states.

Some states allow firearms to be sold in stores like Walmart with minimal restrictions, reflecting the country’s deep-rooted gun culture and second ammendment rights to own a firearm.
