The world's largest mansion with 1,700 rooms, a zoo, and is worth staggering £1billion

A huge home with 1,700 rooms and spanning 2.15 million square feet is the world’s largest residence, and it is worth a staggering £2.2billion.

Istana Nurul Iman Palace is the official residence of the Sultan of Brunei, a tiny nation surrounded by Malaysia and the South China Sea.

It is perhaps no surprise that Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah is the occupant of the world’s largest home given he has a reported net worth of £22billion, making him one of the wealthiest men in the world.

He is also the world’s second-longest-reigning monarch after the late Queen Elizabeth II.

The palace is located in Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital city of Brunei.

Istana Nurul Iman Palace was completed in 1984, designed by Filipino architect Leandro V. Locsin.

Among its 1,700 rooms is a banquet hall which can hold 5,000 people at one time.

Spread across the building are 250 bathrooms, five swimming pools, a huge garage, and an air-conditioned stables where ponies are kept.

The Sultan also boasts a number of pricey belongings.

He has a remarkable 7,000 cars. Among them are 450 Ferraris, 600 Rolls-Royces, 380 Bentleys, and a gold-coated Rolls-Royce.

According to reports, the car collection is worth around £4billion.

India Today also reports that the Sultan owns a Boeing 767-200, an Airbus A340-200, and a Boeing 747-400.

All of the planes are said to have gold interiors.

As well as this, the property also has a private zoo with a wide range of animals, including 30 Bengal tigers.

The huge space and extravagant banquet hall make the palace an ideal place to host state visits from some of the world’s most important leaders.

Another central part of the property is the beautiful mosque which can hold 1,500 people at one time.

The palace is instantly recognisable thanks to its Malay and Brunei-styled Islamic architecture, including a dome structure made from 22-carat gold.

According to reports, the Sultan of Brunei has spent his riches on bizarre things in the past.

These include £19,000 for a haircut and paying Michael Jackson £13million to sing for his birthday.
