Little-known iPhone charging trick gives you a battery boost when you need it most

For those tethered to their smartphones, the dread of a draining battery is all too familiar. Yet, there’s a lesser-known trick up our sleeve for iPhone aficionados that might extend device longevity in crunch times.

Jordan Parkes at 1 Click Marketing sheds light on this ingenuity: when two iPhone 15s are tethered through a USB-C cable, energy shifts from the more charged phone to its power-needy partner.

Jordan said: “Once the two iPhones are linked via cable, they automatically detect which one has less battery. The iPhone with more charge will begin transferring power to the other, although it will deplete its own battery in the process.”

Notably, older iPhone models can benefit from an iPhone 15’s generosity, but sadly can’t reciprocate. A duo of previous models, like the iPhone 11, doesn’t possess this futuristic capability.

Parkes notes: “If you’re planning to charge an iPhone 15 from another iPhone 15, you’ll need a cable with USB-C connectors at both ends. Meanwhile, if you’re charging an older iPhone from an iPhone 15, you’ll require a cable with a USB-C on one end and a Lightning connector on the other.”
