The sun is rising on a beautiful morning here in NW Ohio for the final Tuesday edition of Screencaps in September. It’s also a sad day as news broke overnight that we’ve lost one of the Internet’s icons. We lost a guy who provided me, and Screencaps readers with so much fun over the years.
Mr. Belding, born Dennis Haskins, was best known as the “Saved by the Bell” TV school principal during the early 1990s. Later in life, Belding became known to Screencaps readers as a party animal who got to play in all the best celebrity golf tournaments and serve as the life of the party.
Belding was one of us. He wanted to play in golf scrambles, enjoy some drinks, laugh, maintain great friendships and just live without any troubles. He will be missed and I’m not sure there are many replacements for guys like Belding that we’re losing. Pop culture is losing the best of the best.

Speaking of pop culture icons who keep things interesting in this column, here we go with more from Elizabeth Hurley. You might remember last week when we addressed how Hurley hasn’t visited a gym since the 1990s. She claimed to just work around her yard as her workouts.

A week later, we’re finding out that Liz, 61, is now an apple farmer. “I have an ancient, neglected orchard which I finally started to work on this summer. It still needs tons of work but here’s the results of this year’s effort, all hand picked by me and my family,” Hurley wrote Monday.
That’s a Screencaps HOFer right there. She could just go pick apples like all the other IG influencers. Not Liz. She goes out and rehabs an entire orchard to create content. That’s Do Hard Things.

I implore anyone with 28 minutes to spare to consider an elective root canal first. Entitled, selfish, vain, and completely delusional parents who will undoubtedly lack the the self-awareness to realize that their 20-something son that is still living at home thinking he is going to be a MLB star and lacks the skills to actually be successful in real life…”reality tv” pun intended.
I have to give it to the guys running the “school” where the kids have a whole 2 hours of class a day and the rest is training for their MLB career…parents paying God knows how much for the fantasy, smart. Fools and their money are easily parted.
Disgusting cross country antics to watch out for
– Brandon in NW Houston says there are idiots even in XC: Congrats to SC Jr’s on a great race. Seeing your kid hit a PR is always special. As far as race strategies go, when my son was a junior, a school in our district pulled a pretty shitty (imo) race tactic on our team. They had this jug butt who’d never run a race all season sprint out at the start, get in front of our squad, and then hit the brakes. The fat ass didn’t even finish!
His sole purpose was to get in front of our runners and then hold them up as much as possible…and it worked. No one on the team ran their normal race, and they missed going to regional by 1 runner’s time. Sure, there was plenty of race left to recover, but in a sport where a second or two over 5k makes a difference, it doesn’t take much to screw a team.
It was something I picture Lane Kiffin pulling if he were a XC coach.

– Dave D. checks in: Hey Joe, I watched with a smile your betting spar last week with Jim T, and while I got my undergraduate degree at SDSU, there was no way I was going to enter the fray. I’ve watched that program ebb and flow for years since I went there in the late 70’s. and maybe only a few times in those last decades would I have ever bet for them to win anywhere.

There certainly are some notable exceptions/years – don’t forget Marshal Faulk, Fred Dryer, Carl Weathers (of Rocky fame) all played there, and two players that certainly should have gotten your attention years ago in Brian Sipe (Cleveland) and Isaac Curtis (Cincy), but other than that, they have never put together any semblance of powerhouse programs. The fact that they joined the “Pac 12” only solidifies that league as a subpar “Power 5”. The good news for me was that since I was never a San Diego native, and only lived there for less than 10-years, I was delighted to flee Cali after SDSU and go to Montana State University (and subsequently live in Montana for over 28-years) before settling here in the Uinta Mountains of Utah/Wyoming). I follow MSU with a passion and while they may be a FCS team, they actually put a solid entertaining product on the field.
Anyway, congrats on the win this last weekend, but I knew it was coming the day I saw Toledo on their schedule.
