The popular Spanish seaside resort where Brits can bag a two-bed home for just £55k

Buying a holiday home in Spain is the dream of many although most believe it is an achievable goal.

In fact, UK nationals have bought more Spanish properties than any other nationality.

According to Luxe Villa, Brits made up 9.3 percent of foreign purchasers of Spanish property in 2022, ahead of Germans (8.04 percent) and the French (6.21 per ent).

With average house prices in Barcelona sitting at £850,173.37 (€1,013,067), the dream of a home in the Catalan capital may struggle to become a reality for most.

However, there is one area in Spain where owning a property is far more feasible.

Found in southeastern Spain, this area offers a Mediterranean-seaside city and could be the next ticket for British expats wanting to get on the property ladder.

Torrevieja is a city located in the province of Alicante that offers a relaxing environment, exceptional climate and a high standard of living.

Best of all, house prices in Torrevieja are far more reasonable than in other parts of Spain.

Torrevieja offers great value for money with homes in the city centre and Playa del Cura areas going for averages of £1,323.85 (€1,578/m2) and £1,557.08 (€1,856/m2) respectively.

According to the property portal, Idealista, a two-bedroom apartment near the beach costs a meager £54,530.78 (€65,000).

Those looking to do some vital DIY to their potential new Spanish home can pay as little as £29,027.15 (€34,600).

Living in Torrevieja is also far cheaper than many of Spain’s other regions with reasonable public transport fares and supermarkets offering competitive prices on many of their fresh foods.

The area itself provides quiet beaches including a well-developed infrastructure.

And you’ll be right in the heart of the action as Torrevieja is only 40 minutes south of Alicante airport.

Torrevieja is also set on the Costa Blanca, making it easily reachable to other major cities such as Alicante and Murcia.

“The views of the sea and the town of Alicante are spectacular! And there is a lot to explore,” read one review on TripAdvisor about Torrevieja.

Another added: “Amazing place with incredible views.”
