Halal food cart vendor stabbed outside Fordham University Manhattan campus

Police are searching for a man who stabbed a Halal food cart vendor outside Fordham University’s Manhattan campus.

The 25-year-old victim was arguing with the suspect outside Fordham University’s Lincoln Center campus on 60th St. near Columbus Ave. when he told police the man “poked” him with an unknown object around 11:25 p.m. Thursday.

Medics treated the victim at the scene for minor injuries, said police.

The victim, Ayman Moustafa, told the Fordham University student newspaper The Observer that his attacker forced his way into his food cart before stabbing him with a knife.

“He tried to enter the cart, I told him ‘Go back please, don’t enter please,’ and he got a knife in his pocket, and he stabbed me, he tried to stab me in my stomach, and when I pushed him out, he just got my arm with the knife,” Moustafa told The Observer.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations condemned the attack on Moustafa.

“Our streets must be a safe space for everyone, including hardworking vendors like Ayman Mustafa,” said Afaf Nasher, the executive director of CAIR-NY. “We hope the matter is taken with the seriousness it deserves and that the perpetrator is brought to justice swiftly.”

Thursday’s attack follows the August indictment of David Grinblat, 34, for spitting on and repeatedly punching a 25-year-old man he called “a terrorist.”

When asked by the victim why Grinblat spat on him, the defendant allegedly said, “That’s what I do. Death to Muslims.”
