5 ’emaciated, dehydrated’ horses rescued from New Jersey property

Five “severely emaciated and dehydrated” horses were removed from the New Jersey property of a 56-year-old woman now charged with five counts of fourth-degree animal cruelty.

Dana Grykin allegedly kept the neglected animals “in a small stable with limited room to graze and feed” on a Winslow Township property she owned, the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office said Thursday.

A warrant to take the horses was executed by the prosecutor’s Major Crimes Unit, the Winslow Township Police Department, Winslow Township Animal Control and the New Jersey Department of Agriculture late last week.

“The horses were removed from the property and taken to a farm where they will be properly cared for with adequate food, water and room to run and graze,” prosecutors said.

If convicted, animal cruelty charges in New Jersey may result in fines, community service and jail time.
