Hurricane Milton: Police officers rescue abandoned dog tied to fence ahead of storm

As the “storm of the century,” Category 5 Hurricane Milton, threatened Florida with its 175mph winds, millions have evacuated their homes despite some choosing to brave the storm. The official warning states that anyone remaining in the storm’s path “will die.”

Many evacuees have left behind their possessions and homes, uncertain if they will ever return.

The first fatalities from the hurricane have been reported already, with multiple dead as those who didn’t evacuate rode out the storm.

In a heart-wrenching scene captured on social media by Florida police officers working to ensure safety before the deadly storm hits, one resident appears to have made a desperate decision.

As the record-breaking storm approached the West Coast, the owner – or owners – cruelly abandoned their dog, tying it to a fence post.

Police officers spotted the distressed dog tied near a highway and decided to rescue it amidst the intensifying winds.

The bull terrier can be seen trembling in a large puddle as the officers approach.

The officers slowly approached the dog, which had been cruelly tied about 10 meters from the main road.

One officer reassures the terrified bull terrier, saying, “It’s ok buddy, it’s ok, it’s ok,” adding, “I don’t blame you,” when the dog barked at him.

State troopers said on social media: “FHP Troopers rescued a dog left tied to a pole on I-75 near Bruce B Downs Blvd this morning. Do NOT do this to your pets please.”

Public outrage followed when the video was posted, with one stunned commenter suggesting: “Perhaps we find the owner and the troopers can tie them to the pole and leave them? Just a suggestion.”
