Spirit Halloween to open 10 Spirit Christmas stores across Northeast

Spirit Halloween is getting into the Christmas spirit.

Each year, the popular retailer pops up in hundreds of empty storefronts across the country, doling out costumes, decorations and other creepy goods before disappearing at the end of spooky season.

The chain, owned by mall stalwart Spencer Gifts, typically opens up to eight weeks before Halloween, but instead of closing up shop this year, Spirit Halloween will embrace a new holiday and transform into Spirit Christmas.

A flagship Spirit Christmas store in Mays Landing, N.J., will be the first to open on October 18; nine more will pop up once November hits. They’ll comprise a mixture of converted Spirit Halloween stores and new locations.

“Spirit Christmas is a new concept for us, and we’re hopeful it will resonate with our customers,” a spokesperson for Spirit Halloween told CNBC. “Our goal is to create a festive retail experience that captures the spirit of the season, much like we do for Halloween.”

Each store will be packed with a range of seasonal goods, including potential presents, giant inflatables and other decorations. Most locations will also feature a “life-sized” gingerbread village as well the opportunity to snap a photo with Santa Claus.

“Discover thousands of stocking stuffers, holiday apparel, fun gifts, unique decor, plus all the special trimmings for creating an unforgettable Christmas,” the Spirit Christmas webpage reads.

Other locations include: Crystal Mall in Waterford, Conn.; Faunce Corner Shopping Center in Dartmouth, Mass.; Market Place at Brick in Brick Township, New Jersey; Willow Ridge in Marlton, New Jersey; The Plaza at Woodbridge in Woodbridge, New Jersey; the Colonie Center in Albany, New York; Sayville Plaza in Bohemia, New York; Chestnut Plaza in Poughkeepsie, New York; and Mill Creek Mall in Erie, Penn.
