Nightmare in Italy as Brits holidays could be ruined over air traffic control strikes

British tourists heading to Italy in October are being warned that their holiday plans could face significant disruption due to a series of strikes, starting with an air traffic control strike on October 11.

According to Italy’s aviation authority ENAC, the four-hour strike by air traffic control staff is scheduled to take place from 1pm to 5pm at airports including Bari, Brindisi, Milan Linate, and Palermo.

While the government is expected to guarantee some essential flights during the strike period, the strike could cause delays and cancellations for thousands of passengers – resulting in some people’s holidays being ruined.

To make matters worse, the company responsible for the maintenance of air traffic control systems will also join the strike.

Anyone who travels during that period is being advised to keep in close contact with their airlines for updates and be prepared for possible changes to their itineraries.

This air traffic control strike is just the first of several transport disruptions planned in Italy throughout October.

On the weekend of October 12-13, there will be a 24-hour rail strike, impacting both regional and long-distance services operated by companies like Trenitalia and Italo.

This strike is expected to cause significant delays, particularly over the busy weekend period when tourists are travelling in and around the country.

Adding to the chaos, a public transport strike is also scheduled for October 18 affecting buses, trams, and metro services in cities across Italy.

This will be coupled with an eight-hour strike by automotive workers from the Stellantis group, which may affect certain public services in cities like Rome, where a demonstration is planned.

For anyone planning to travel to Italy during these dates, it’s crucial to check transport schedules and flight updates to avoid unexpected delays.
