Trinidad Chambliss leads Ole Miss Rebels offense as Lane Kiffin faces former team in SEC football spotlight

Gee, I wish there were some storylines for this game between the LSU Tigers and the Ole Miss Rebels. There isn’t going to be a game this week that has more attention than this one. I’m excited to see what happens with the crowd as much as I am on the field. The product on the field should be one of the best games of the weekend as well.

The LSU Tigers are off to a good start and are currently ranked at 7th in the nation. The main story you’ll hear about is Lane Kiffin, and I feel like I should share my opinion. Lane Kiffin leaving Ole Miss for LSU is… not a big deal. Everyone in the world has goals and desires, and outside of a family business, you’re going to work for a competitor if they are paying you more or have a better reputation. That is exactly what you should do. People will get over it, but we all knew this would be a major story this week, and probably much of the season.

As for the actual players of this game, it has been a good start against bad teams for the Tigers. They blew out Clemson 51-10 in their first game, and in the second, they took down Louisiana Tech by a final score of 45-14. I’ve got some questions about how much of a leash Sam Leavitt has after throwing four interceptions compared to two touchdowns in his two games.

Ole Miss really shouldn’t feel bad about Kiffin leaving, and so far, they’ve done everything you need to do to make a team and school forget about him. They are 2-0 for the season, winning over one quality opponent and one easier one. Their season opener was against Louisville, and they took them down 41-38 in Week 1. Last week, they beat Charlotte with a final score of 41-9. That was a much more comfortable win, obviously.

All eyes tonight will be on quarterback Trinidad Chambliss. He was a key piece of Kiffin’s success at Ole Miss last year. After a court battle giving him eligibility, Chambliss has looked good, going 44-for-62 so far with five touchdowns and one interception. I’ve been impressed with their work on the ground as well. Half of the carries have gone to Kewan Lacy, and he has 148 yards and three touchdowns.

I think the biggest question about this game is which one will get the stop when they need it. The game opened somewhat as a pick’em, but has moved in favor of the Tigers taking this one. I do think this will be a very hostile environment for LSU to play in. I also have been really unimpressed with Leavitt. I’m taking the points here, and I do think Ole Miss can win this game outright. Give me the Rebels +3.
