Welcome in on this beautiful morning for a flaming hot edition of Monday Screencaps where we dive right into the world of football, a new cross country personal record for Screencaps Jr., my trip to Detroit to see a former NFL Super Bowl QB and anything else on my mind because I built this column and they pay me to write things for the readers.

Let’s start with the world of football with some quick hitters:

• As many of you know, I’ve been all over the death of the NFL chain gang topic for the last 2-3 years. Yesterday, I noticed the NFL is now using a virtual measurement tool that sure looks like MLB’s ABS system for strike zone challenges. There was a moment in the Packers-Vikings game where Jordan Love ran a QB keeper into a massive pile of humanity and the line judges came rushing in to spot the ball.

The human places the ball, the head ref says it’s too close to call, so they go to the NFL’s ABS. The ball was six-inches short of the first down. Folks, what are we doing? We have AI that is going to kill us all and yet we can’t figure out how perfect the art of placing a football exactly where the runner was down? There are reports that the league has been putting chips in footballs since 2016 and yet we still can’t figure this out. SMH.

• How did JJ Watt perform in Tony Romo’s seat? He’s safe. I wouldn’t say he’s earth-shattering in the way he analyzes the action, but he doesn’t hurt the broadcast. Honestly, it felt like at times he was too soft-spoken. I’m not looking for Watt to turn into a screamer, but he just stayed safe, almost like he’s easing into the role.

TONY ROMO’S FUTURE WITH CBS IS OFFICIALLY IN QUESTION AHEAD OF 2028 SUPER BOWL

This was a good moment for JJ:

• Do you really want to see the Bears put up 59 points? Do you miss the days of a defensive struggle?

JASON CHAFFETZ: 4 WAYS TO MAKE FOOTBALL MORE EXCITING TO WATCH

• Speaking of defense…I had a very pleasant day Sunday at the golf course with Screencaps Jr. and Screencaps the III. We shared a golf cart. Jr. and I played 9 holes while The III kept track of the Bengals game via YouTubeTV on my phone and then putting out for us. What a guys day. The Bengals were creating all sorts of turnovers. Screencaps Jr. was hitting balls over water hazards after thinking it was impossible.

My boys are growing up before my eyes. What a day for the Kinsey household and MY Bengals. Dare I say that looked like a playoff defense? The best part about Sunday is that I didn’t have to see blue checkmarks hammering MY team for once.

• The NFL is definitely leaning into Madison Beer. Guys, they need that Taylor Swift replacement and who am I to argue with this decision?

NFL WEEK 1 TAKEAWAYS: BENGALS FLASH CONTENDER UPSIDE, BEARS EXPLODE AND PACKERS COLLAPSE

Here’s the problem for the NFL: The Chargers might not be good. Did you see the offensive line performance? Jacoby Brissett outplayed Justin Herbert. Let that sink in. A team that’s literally trying to tank its season went into L.A. and dominated the Chargers.

If Beer is going to replace Swift moving forward, the NFL needs to get the Chargers up to speed. Fast.

• Speaking of the NFL, Saturday afternoon/evening, I was on assignment up in Detroit at the Black Footwear Forum conference where Colin Kaepernick was brought in to speak. I met up with OutKick’s Bobby Burack for the first time since working here and the two of us made our way to the auditorium doors where a man, I presume an off-duty cop, stopped us in our tracks as we tried to go through metal detectors.

“Woah, we’re FULL. You guys can’t go in,” he said. But…we have a ticket. What do you mean we can’t go in? Access denied.

COLIN KAEPERNICK IS RIGHT ABOUT THE NFL’S ‘PERFORMATIVE’ RACISM CAMPAIGN — BUT HE’S ALSO A HYPOCRITE

Fifteen minutes into the speech, Burack goes back to the gate to ask how many people the auditorium seats. Suddenly, out of nowhere, one of the event organizers finds an auditorium badge. Burack is IN. It turns out the event was worthless. Kaepernick rehashed stuff all of us have heard for years. There was no Q&A. No audience participation. He got up, took a photo with event organizers and left.

• I broke down and bought the NFL Ticket. $240 via Verizon. I guess that’s not a bad price.

– Mike T. in Idaho writes: I was watching the Big 10 network this weekend and was surprised at the amount of political ads that were shown on TV? I live in Idaho, where the Red blanket covers our wonderful state! Very few political ads hereI I feel sorry for the people in the “Battleground ” areas.

Kinsey: Trust me, it’s horrible. Ohio has like 6-7 races that INUNDATE our TVs with commercials. They even had some barber cut a commercial for Vivek while Amy Acton is now making sure to tell all of us how she used to be homeless.

Screencaps Jr. has a new personal cross country record

At Saturday’s Tiffin Carnival meet, Jr. finished with an 11:32.5 (11th place out of 287 runners), which smashed his previous best by 13 seconds as his team won the varsity race by 110 points. The boys put up 70 points, which, according to the experts in this sport, is an incredible number.

The boys are dialed in.

Odds and ends from Screencaps readers

• Eric P. in the PnW emails: Season’s over. No point in any more games being played. It’s going to be Baltimore and Chicago next the Super Bowl with the first time dual MVP QB’s playing against each other along with dual coaches of the year.

Despite the fact that neither of their defenses being able to stop the Akron Zips from scoring. And people wonder why people on the west coast, the PNW to be specific, say there is an East Coast bias..I’d say the announcers should be better than that, but it will never change.

• Caleb says shame on Midas:

• Dennis sat through the NASCAR race: The highlight of the nascar race today was Sophie Cunningham. Racing was mediocre, broadcast by USA sucks donkeys.

Why do we need an Australian doing Nascar broadcast? One of our best friends is Aussie, married to an American lady. I sure cannot stand listening to USA broadcast . Horrible voices, horrible production.

BUT SOPHIE!!!@@

– Ralph believes there was something funny going on during the Ohio State-Texas game: I watched that game Texas played last night against Ohio and I’m very suspicious that there was point shaving going on!! That performance was absolutely if not the worst I’ve ever witnessed!! It’s my it’s my sincere concern that we were witnessing POINT SHAVING!! This was abundantly obvious, there’s no other explanation for these otherwise incredibly stupid mistakes!!! I really wonder if the Mexican Mafia hasn’t got to some of the players?? I don’t believe Arch Manning had anything to f do with this but these other players actions really looked that way!! Do you expect an investigation??

Kinsey: The only investigation should be into why Ryan Day insists on crumbling in games. TELL THE DEFENSE TO LET THEM SCORE WITH 1:36 ON THE CLOCK. THEN THEY CALLED A TIMEOUT AND STILL DIDN’T JUST LET TEXAS SCORE. That’s malpractice.

####################

And with that, it’s time to get this week started. It’s like 55 degrees outside this morning, which is making me mad. The trees are starting to change. All the signs are there. We MUST finish summer strong. Get out. Play golf. Do something.
