RICHARD JOHNSON: Suri drops the Cruise, cheers on mom Katie Holmes on Broadway

Katie Holmes’ daughter Suri Cruise went to see her mother in her new Broadway show “Our Town.”

The classic play co-stars Jim Parsons of “Big Bang Theory” and Zoey Deutch of “The Politician.”

Suri was the first to jump up from her seat, along with dermatologist Dr. Kenneth Mark and divorce attorney Ken Jewell, when her mother came out to take her bow.

Suri, who just started classes at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, is also an aspiring actress and performed at her alma mater LaGuardia High School’s production of “Head Over Heels” where she was listed in the program as Suri Noelle, her mother’s middle name.

She also used the name when she graduated from the performing arts high school, signaling that she is no longer using the last name of her father, Tom Cruise, from whom she has reportedly estranged.

Lon Ballinger, who owned Webster Hall for 25 years, will never forget the night a young Lady Gaga performed.

“She asked me, ‘Do you know what I was doing a year ago? I was pouring drinks down people’s throats at a bar on the Lower East Side … Look at me now,’” Ballinger told me.

“Her mom said, ‘We had nothing to do with it.’”

Ballinger recounts the club’s rollicking history in “Party Boys,” the story of how he and his three brothers from a farm town in Canada became the kings of New York nightlife.

Webster Hall, built in 1886 on East 11th Street, fit 1500 guests. Ballinger sold it in 2017 to AEG, which reportedly spent $10 million on renovations.

Bill Clinton celebrated his second inauguration there in 1997 with Secret Service on the roof, 10,000 balloons dropping from the ceiling, and beautiful go-go dancers in red, white and blue bikinis.

After Clinton warmly greeted his mother, “she had to go to the hospital” Ballinger said.

Prince rented the club after a dispute with his record company when he was called “the artist formerly known as Prince.”

The artist had strict rules — no smoking, no drinking and no meat. But his fans didn’t care as he jammed with a 35-piece orchestra.

Ballinger thinks it is possible that Madonna and Carlos Leon conceived daughter Lourdes the night she performed at Webster Hall in 1995. Leon was her only dancer, and their chemistry seemed real. Nine months later Lourdes was born.

“My plan was to be New York City’s nightclub. We were open to all the cultures,” Ballinger said.

“The only rule was: behave yourselves. I didn’t want to Police department to shut us down.”

Wedding dress designer Hayley Paige — famous for her appearances on TLC’s reality show “Say Yes to the Dress” — is back in business after a four-year legal battle.

Paige worked for years for JLM Couture. “I tried to renegotiate my contract for a year and a half,” she told me.

When talks broke off, the company sued her in federal court. “I was under a non-compete, and I couldn’t use my name. I couldn’t work.”

JLM went bankrupt, and the case finally settled. “I ended up getting it all back,” she said. “Now I can get right back into bridal.”

The music of Sean “Diddy” Combs may continue getting airplay despite his legal troubles, says DJ Prince Hakim, son of Kool and the Gang co-founder Robert Bell.

R. Kelly’s songs have all but disappeared in the wake of his convictions on federal racketeering and sex trafficking charges involving sexual abuse of minors. But the music of Michael Jackson continues on the radio and nightclubs although he was tried and acquitted in 2005 of sexually abusing boys.

“Come on. It’s the Jackson Five. I’m going to keep playing Michael Jackson. He has too many great hits,” Hakim said.

As for Combs. “It’s a big dilemma in the music industry. Other artists will suffer if Diddy’s music is cancelled. For 30 years, he impacted hip-hop culture.”

“What the Puff do we do?” Hakim asked. “I don’t know.”
