Two teens in custody after cops recover gun at Brooklyn high school

A teenage boy and girl were taken into custody after police found a firearm in a bookbag at a Brooklyn high school Thursday afternoon, cops said.

A tip led officers to recover the weapon from a 16-year-old boy’s backpack at Metropolitan Diploma Plus High School on Rockaway Ave. near Linden Blvd. in Brownsville at 12:26 p.m., police said.

The boy and a girl, also age 16, were taken into police custody. No charges have been filed, cops said.

The school was placed into a “soft lockdown” — a state of readiness in which administrators and safety agents are alerted to a threat posing no immediate danger — before police seized the gun, according to law enforcement.

Thursday’s recovery of a firearm follows a gun scare at an Upper West Side campus earlier this month.

On Sept. 13, the Louis D. Brandeis High School campus on 84th St. between Columbus and Amsterdam Aves. was put on lockdown following what ultimately proved to be a noncredible report of an armed person inside the building.

No weapon was found as a result of that report.
