Malik Nabers plans to let his actions do the talking against Dallas Cowboys corner Trevon Diggs on Thursday night.
Diggs took offense this spring when Nabers was asked which NFL corner he can’t wait to match up against and he answered: “Trevon Diggs.”
“Giants been getting belt for some years now,” Diggs tweeted in response on June 18.
But Nabers wasn’t interested in firing back Tuesday as the Giants (1-2) prepared to host Diggs and the Cowboys (1-2) in prime time.
“I mean, it is what it is, but I don’t really wanna talk about it,” Nabers said at his locker. “I mean, it’s gametime now.”
If Nabers intends to make a statement, doing so during a Giants-Cowboys prime-time clash at MetLife Stadium is as good a stage as any.
Odell Beckham Jr.’s star unforgettably exploded from shining to meteoric on Nov. 23, 2014, when the rookie reached over his head falling backward and snagged an Eli Manning deep pass with only his right hand against the Cowboys on this same field.
“It was a moment that obviously changed my life forever; for better, for worse, whatever you want to call it, it changed my life,” Beckham said in 2018. “So there’s no way that I can ever forget about that moment. I mean, I remember the smell of the stadium. I remember it all. So it’s a very special moment.”
Nabers, 21, is younger than his LSU predecessor Beckham, 22, was when he made that crazy catch. And he is already setting NFL records.
In last Sunday’s road win over the Cleveland Browns, Nabers became the first player in NFL history with 20-plus catches and three touchdowns in his first three career games.
He has to keep producing, though, if the Giants are going to snap a six-game franchise losing streak against the Cowboys that dates back to the 2020 NFL season. That will mean winning his battle with Diggs, 26, the All-Pro and two-time Pro Bowler.
Interestingly, Nabers said he doesn’t even know Diggs, despite their back-and-forth offseason.
“No, personally no, I don’t,” Nabers said.
So what is their spat even about?
“Like I said, I don’t wanna talk about it,” Nabers said.
He’ll try to let his actions do the talking Thursday night under the lights.
