Police seeking stabber who gouged stranger for bumping into him at Manhattan subway station

Police released pictures Sunday of a man who angrily stabbed a subway rider with a knife after the pair bumped into each other at an East Village subway station.

The 29-year-old victim had just exited a Brooklyn-bound L train at 1st Ave. and East 14th St. around 8:43 p.m. Friday when he unwittingly “bumped into” a man who then “brandished a knife” and slashed the victim in the back, police said.

A security guard monitoring the platform witnessed the victim looking confused and in pain, and someone fleeing up the stairs to the street. Police later described the possible attacker as “an Asian man with a bag.”

“Someone came up behind him and stabbed him in the back,” said the security guard, who gave his name as Samba. “He never saw it coming.”

“He yelled, ‘Somebody punched me.’ But then we looked and we saw all the blood.”

Medics transported the victim to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition.

The attacker fled on foot in an unknown direction, cops said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
