A 26-year-old bicyclist was clinging to life Saturday following an early-morning crash with a Toyota in Brooklyn, cops said.
The bicyclist was heading west on Hart St. when he blew past a stop sign at Evergreen Ave. in Bushwick at about 2:45 a.m., cops said.
A second later, he collided with a black Toyota heading north on Evergreen Ave., they said.
The cyclist was thrown from his bike and was found sprawled on the asphalt, suffering from a massive head injury. EMS rushed him to Kings County Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition Saturday.
The 36-year-old Toyota driver was taken to the same hospital with minor injuries, cops said.
No criminal charges were immediately filed.
Saturday’s crash comes amid a slight uptick in fatal collisions in the city.
As of Thursday, the NYPD had investigated 187 traffic fatalities this year, one more than last year.
While traditional bicycling fatalities have dropped by one, from six to five, and e-bike deaths fell from 18 to 12 this year, there has been a 26% jump in fatal pedestrian strikes, cops said.
Authorities had investigated 85 pedestrian deaths as of Thursday, 18 more than the 67 reported this time last year, cops said.
