The latest episode of “Lioness” shook fans to the core.
Season three of Taylor Sheridan’s epic CIA/military thriller is currently airing on Paramount+, and the fourth episode of the new season aired this past Sunday.
The new season has been absolutely insane through four episodes as the hunt to save Joe (Zoe Saldaña) from her kidnappers is underway.

Well, things are officially at a different level as of Sunday.

“Lioness” fans aren’t strangers to violence in the series. In fact, “Lioness” has routinely provided some of the best action sequences in the history of TV.
The season three premiere brought viewers to the frontlines of the war in Ukraine in absolutely brutal and unrelenting fashion.
It’s another masterclass from Sheridan.

Well, one death scene brought the stakes to an unprecedented level in “Murder Hornets.”

With the clock racing down to find Joe before she’s extracted out of the country to her death, the team launches an assault against an airport hangar.
The team misses saving Joe, and viewers were given one of the most shocking scenes in the history of the series.
Kyle (Thad Luckinbill), one of Joe’s most loyal teammates, executes one of the kidnappers at point-blank range in a desperate bid to get the other abductors to give up the tail number of the plane she’s on.

The cold-blooded killing left the rest of Joe’s team shocked, especially Bobby. Yet, the decision was calculated. There’s no time for regular investigations and interrogations. Joe’s life depends on moving fast, and Kyle is willing to do whatever is necessary to bring her home. If that means executing captured men, then so be it.
There is also a gut-wrenching scene at the end of the episode where Kaitlyn (Nicole Kidman) informs Joe’s husband that the reality of the situation is as bleak and ominous as possible:
Prepare for Joe to never return alive.

People had plenty of reactions on Reddit to the shocking episode:
- Kyle makes a lot of excuses to justify his violence, but we all know that Joe’s life is all that matters. Bro is just worried about his sister.
- Kyle is approaching this situation for exactly what it is. A war crime in the middle of a war. He knows exactly what horrors Joe is in for if they make it to Russia with her so he’s not afraid of dropping Russian bodies along the way to prevent that from happening. The suits outlined it perfectly in this episode. If they successfully get Joe off of US soil getting her back becomes so much more complicated (and leads to them possibly having to trade Lioness secrets and risk other case workers getting burned just to get her back). At that point how do you explain to Joe’s family that it’s almost better off for the US government to just abandon their top Lioness case worker who has given them everything over the years to die in the name of protecting the agency? It doesn’t surprise me that Kyle is approaching this situation with a very heightened sense of urgency. As Meade said in the episode their window to get Joe back without it creating a huge mess for the Lioness program is rapidly closing.
- Kaitlyn (Nicole Kidman) made clear when she and Kyle were alone that he is licensed to kill but the QRF team is not. Bobbi and the crew assumed Kyle was out of line because they cannot execute anyone in cold blood. But Kyle can, he has authorization. Joe is at the same level as Kyle so I assume she has the same authorization.
- Kyle is known to be ruthless, but he wouldn’t go as far as killing a defenseless man for anyone but his big sister Joe.
- I’m totally team Kyle. But I understand WHY Bobby was pissed. She and the rest of the team don’t know he is under different orders.
- The more I watch this season the more I become a fan of Kyle. The speech he gave back at base after the airport hangar op about how everything could play out with Joe as a chess piece was incredible.
- Kyle just became the best character on this show. He knows he has authority and power to eliminate threats with no repercussions and its very cool that Kaitlyn reminds him he can do that but the others can’t and he has to be mindful of that. Kyle is the one that gets sh*t done and I love it.
- Kyle telling everyone the harsh truths that they don’t want to hear if they actually successfully get Joe to Russia away from American jurisdiction. Those Russians basically freely admitted to being Joe’s kidnappers on American soil while hiding behind the diplomatic immunity shield so I don’t blame him for killing one of them (even if it is a mess to clean up for law enforcement).
- I hope all paid attention to the conversation Kyle had with Kaitlyn about he needs a team with the same “Rules of Engagement” he has. Kaitlyn told Kyle it’s on it’s way. We will not be getting Joe back until that team is on site and deployed with Kyle to retrieve her. Their arrival will be a key moment.
- I am team Kyle on this one. I was screaming at my TV like that’s how you do it. You start putting guns to heads and shoot MF’ers who aren’t talking!
