GTA 6 release date delay almost certain after latest disheartening comments

Speculation about the GTA 6 release date is almost certainly going to continue until the Grand Theft Auto sequel is actually playable and in the hands of gamers. Indeed, just days after the most recent GTA 6 release date scare, new comments have again cast doubt over the game hitting its autumn 2025 launch target. New comments made by a former Rockstar Games employee suggest GTA 6 is more likely to be delayed than not. As pointed out by former Rockstar Games technical director Obbe Vermeij, the studio delayed GTA 4 just four months before its original release date. This means we may not find out about any potential delay until next May/June.

“The decision to delay GTA 4 was made four months or so before the original release date,” Vermeij tweeted.

“Any further and it’s hard to make the call. Rockstar is probably not in a position to determine whether they will hit 2025 until May-ish.”

As Vermeij also points out, Rockstar made the decision to delay GTA 4 when the series had much more competition, something which doesn’t really apply to GTA 6.

Indeed, according to Vermeij (who admittedly points out that he has no inside knowledge), GTA 6 is likely to be around for ten years, so Rockstar doesn’t need to risk releasing an inferior product.

“GTA 6 will sell for 10 plus years and there is no competition to worry about,” Vermeij continues. “They are not going to release the game until they’re 100% happy with it. No matter what it said in the trailer.”

Of course, this contradicts comments made by Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, who told investors that he’s confident GTA 6 will meet its target release date.

Maybe we’ll find out more when the new GTA 6 trailer drops, potentially on October 4.

What we do know for sure is that Grand Theft Auto 6 takes place in the state of Leonida, which is based on Florida.

Rockstar explains: “Grand Theft Auto VI heads to the state of Leonida, home to the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond in the biggest, most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series yet.”

The previously released trailer gives fans a look some of the map locations as seen from the skies above. This includes locations based on the Florida Keys, as well as the beach and more.

The trailer also hints at a potential game-changing new feature for Grand Theft Auto 6, which will up the scale to never-before-seen levels.
