With the cost of living crisis still hurting wallets, it’s no surprise that many UK homes are trying to find cheaper ways to tune into premium TV. Over the past few years, there’s been an explosion in illegal streaming with millions now thought to be accessing sports and movies without paying the usual high fees.
This trend hasn’t gone unnoticed by authorities or content providers with UK crackdowns continuing to take down streams and put those who supply the illegal streams in jail.
Now there’s another block taking place and it could stop those trying to watch this weekend’s London derby – between Arsenal and Spurs – from tuning in without paying.
It’s been confirmed that a new initiative from BeStreamWise is aiming to stop football fans from watching the match with those clicking on links being shown footage of a stream of water instead.
BeStreamWise, which is a cross-body initiative, says it will be targeting fans searching for live streams on platforms such as X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit.
The aim is to not only stop people watching illegally but also educate them about the dangers which include downloading malware.
