SUV collides with 74-year-old man on Brooklyn crosswalk in fatal hit-and-run

Cops are hunting for a motorist who left a 74-year-old man to die on a Brooklyn crosswalk Wednesday night.

Segundo Reina-Gaon, 74, was crossing Ridge Blvd. near Bay Ridge Ave. when the driver of a white SUV struck him around 8:56 p.m., cops said.

Video shows the victim in the crosswalk just steps away from the sidewalk at the intersection’s northeast corner when the SUV hits him.

A nearby resident was standing outside Watchamacallit Deli and Grill at the intersection when Reina-Gaon was mowed down.

“He was an old man just crossing the street,” said the witness, who declined to share his name. “He slammed into him and the guy went flying.”

“It really p—-s me off. He never had a chance.”

Paramedics rushed Reina-Gaon to Langone Hospital in Sunset Park where he died, police said.

The driver fled the scene following the fatal crash.

The NYPD on Thursday set up a checkpoint at the intersection where Reina-Gaon was struck, and officers could be seen checking IDs as they stopped vehicles on Ridge Blvd.

The deadly crash happened a block from where state Sen. Andrew Gounardes met with city Department of Transportation officials to discuss safety concerns earlier this week, the legislator posted on social media.

“Devastated to wake up to the news that a Bay Ridge neighbor was killed by an SUV in a hit-and-run last night,” Gounardes wrote on X. “Just two days ago I was discussing safety concerns one block from here with DOT.”

The fatal crash is being investigated by the NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation Squad.
