Gardener shares top autumn flowers – and tips to keep them blooming

Many feel that once their summer plants have wilted, that has to be it for the rest of the year.

While you may have some hardy plants that still bloom a little, your garden may look otherwise dull and bleak – but it doesn’t have to be this way.

However, gardener and TikTok user @greenfingeredcityboy pointed out that “autumn doesn’t mean you can’t have flowers”, as he excitedly brought a pot and some blooms to show viewers what you can plant that will stand the test of colder months.

He urged people to get a pot, and a broken pot for “drainage”. Then, you’ll need a “soil or compost mix”.

His top picks for the autumn months are cyclamen and heather, and before you plant them, you’ll need to “massage [their] roots”.

Then it’s your time to “get arty” and display them in the pot in a way that brings you joy.

Make sure to “fill any gaps with compost”, and he joked: “Bit of grit if you’re posh”.

He then showed off the plant pot that he was proud of, proving that your garden can still bloom, even when the sun doesn’t come out as much as you’d like it to.

He then encouraged people to “Bang it where you can see it”, so you can get the most out of it.

In the comments, someone penned: “Lovely!!! Makes a mental note to head to Garden Centre later”. While another added: “Oooo yes! I really want to buy some heather for my planters so this is perfect!”

“I love the combination”, another TikTok user praised. While a fellow plant lover added: “Nooooo don’t tempt me”, a plant lover wrote.

Other social media users said they “loved” his ideas to freshen up gardens.
