Morrisons fans spot Christmas chocolate sold four months early – and can't believe cost

Morrisons has been criticised for launching Christmas chocolate range four months before the festive season, despite the UK enjoying 26C temperatures. The supermarket giant has already discounted Reese’s Trees and Maltesers Reindeers with a two-for-£1 deal on the 75p products.

Morrisons More Card holders can also enjoy further discounts, including £1 off £5 Toblerones and boxes of Maltesers for 75p less than their regular £2.25 retail price.

Cadbury Heroes and Roses have been reduced from £4.50 to £4, while Toffifee boxes are now available for £1.50, saving customers 30p.

However, one customer was not impressed with the early festive display in the Fleet, Hampshire branch, stating: “It seems mad they are trying to lure people in with money saving deals.

“If they don’t think shoppers will pay the full price, why put them on sale so early. It’s bonkers.”

The Christmas display also includes full-priced items such as Morrisons’ own The Best pack of nine mince pies for £2.75, a rich and fruity Christmas pudding for £2.50, Lindt’s milk chocolate Santas and tins of McVities Victoria biscuits for £3.75 and £5 respectively.

Morrisons kicked off the festive season exceptionally early last year by selling mince pies in September, as noted by What’s The Jam. A spokesperson for Morrisons explained: “We start selling mince pies a few months before Christmas because our customers tell us they really enjoy them.”

The spokesperson also mentioned: “We know that lots of our customers are already enjoying our Christmas range. While others are stocking up now to help spread the cost of Christmas.”
