Two killed in wrong-way crash on Manhattan parkway, driver runs off


Two men were killed when a pickup truck heading the wrong way on the Henry Hudson Parkway slammed into their car head-on early Saturday, leaving one of the vehicles on fire, cops said.

The driver of the pickup truck ran off on foot, leaving his 22-year-old passenger behind, officials said.

Two other cars ended up getting involved in the crash.

Video on Citizen shows one of the vehicles on fire as traffic comes to a standstill.

The carnage began about 2:30 a.m. when the pickup somehow ended up heading south on the northbound lane on the tree-lined Henry Hudson Parkway on Manhattan’s west side.

Moments later, the pickup truck crashed into an oncoming Dodge Challenger carrying the two victims, one 40, the other 38.

EMS rushed the 40-year-old man to Harlem Hospital and the 38-year-old man to New York Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center, but neither could be saved. The victims’ names weren’t immediately disclosed.

Two other cars crashed into the pile-up, but no other injuries were reported.

After the initial collision the driver of the pickup truck managed to get out of the mangled wreck and run away. His passenger remained at the scene and was being questioned by police.

No arrests have been made.

The northbound lanes were shut down for several hours as cops investigated the crash.
