A New Jersey community was breathing a sigh of relief on Tuesday as 82-year-old twin sisters were found safe after going missing a day earlier.
Margo Nelson and Gail Soehnlein had last been seen Monday leaving their home in River Edge at about 7:30 a.m., the local police union said on social media. The two have dementia — one further along than the other — and had left the home they shared without bringing their medications, the River Edge Police Department said in a silver alert.
They were pulled over in Montauk, N.Y., at the far eastern end of Long Island, police told ABC News. It’s about 125 miles east of their home.
Nelson suffers from dementia, police said, while Soehnlein has a heart condition and early-onset dementia. They were seen driving away in their gray Hyundai Elantra.
“They both left their residence together,” the River Edge police union’s local wrote on social media. “Both do not have their medications with them. Gail Soehnlein is the driver.”
They entreated anyone who caught sight of the pair to call 911.
On Tuesday, the post was amended to say the two had been found safe.
“Both parties have been located,” River Edge PBA Local 201 said. “Thank you for all your assistance.”
