Three Philadelphia man were arrested after two women — one of them fatally shot and the other seriously wounded — were found near the Atlantic City Boardwalk, investigators said.
Gregg Page, 34, was arrested and charged with murder, attempted murder and other related offenses in the death of Carley Elbert and the shooting of her friend, Kamille Stewart, the Atlantic County Prosecutors Office announced Friday.
Two others, brothers Ryan Schenck, 30, and Ramir Schenck, 27, are also facing counts of hindering apprehension in connection with the case.
Their arrests came a day after authorities were called early Thursday to the area of 60 North Main Avenue, near Flagship Resort, where they discovered 30-year-old Elbert and 29-year-old Stewart near the jetty around 5:30 a.m.
Stewart, who suffered multiple injuries, was rushed to AtlantiCare Medical Center, officials said. Her condition was not immediately clear as of Saturday afternoon.
Elbert, still wearing her bathing suit at the time, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Elbert’s mother, Nancy, told Fox 29 her daughter was an aspiring rapper with a “beautiful soul,” adding that she “would help anyone at any time.” The grieving parent also said Elbert, who had a rare disorder called mast cell disease, had fought for her life many times before she turned up dead earlier this week.
“[Mast cell disease] affects every single organ. Your brain, … your heart, your lungs, everything,” she said. “That is what the disease does to you. She was on life support so many times, but she pulled through it.”
According to a criminal complaint obtained by Action News, Gregg Page was caught fleeing in a car that belonged to one of the victims.
He was allegedly seen on video moving the vehicle, then abandoning it at another location, where he was picked up by his sibling co-conspirators.
