Caleb Ferguson’s unsuccessful stint in the Bronx is over.
The Yankees are trading the left-handed reliever to the rival Astros, according to the YES Network’s Jack Curry. Houston will send a minor leaguer and international pool money back to New York.
Acquired from the Dodgers over the offseason, the Yankees had hoped that Ferguson could fill the void left by Wandy Peralta, who signed with the Padres. Instead, Ferguson is enduring the worst year of his career.
The 28-year-old lefty has a 5.13 ERA over 42 games. He somewhat recently began incorporating a slurve, but he still has a 6.55 ERA over his last 14 games.
YANKEES ADDING CONVERTED PITCHER
The Yankees are also adding Brett Phillips, though not via trade.
The former Rays outfielder is signing a minor league deal with the club, per multiple reports, as he tries to reinvent himself as a pitcher. The 30-year-old has been clocked at 97 mph.
