15-year-old found dead on Queens tracks may have been subway surfing: NYPD

Police are investigating whether a 15-year-old boy found dead on the tracks in Queens was subway surfing Friday.

An MTA train operator notified police after spotting the teen unconscious on the elevated tracks at the Beach 90th St. station in Far Rockaway at 5:27 pm, according to law enforcement.

Medics responded and pronounced the boy — who was found with a severe head injury — dead at the scene.

It’s unclear if the boy was struck by another train or had fallen onto the tracks, according to a spokeswoman for the NYPD, who said detectives believe it’s possible the teen was subway surfing.

The medical examiner will determine the boy’s cause of death.

Following the Far Rockaway fatality, a No.3 train struck and killed a man in Manhattan.

The northbound train was in the tunnel between the 23rd St. and 28th St. stations in Chelsea when its emergency brake was tripped shortly before 7 p.m., said police, who found the body of an unidentified man.

It is unclear how the man ended up on the tracks, they said.

Of more than 100 subway surfing incidents reported to police this year, two have resulted in fatalities, including a 13-year-old boy who died after falling from a northbound No. 6 train in the Bronx last month.

In January, 14-year-old subway surfing enthusiast Alam Reyes died after he fell from the roof of a southbound F train in Brooklyn.

The MTA kicked off a public safety awareness campaign last September to discourage youths from risking the dangerous stunt.

Two months later, the NYPD dispatched its first drones to look for surfers and warn motormen to stop their train.
