Child’s body found in duffel bag in West Philadelphia dumpster

The body of a young child was found stuffed in a duffel bag in a dumpster on Monday morning, Philadelphia police said.

Community Life Improvement Program worker made the gruesome discovery around 9:45 a.m. while cleaning along a block in in West Philadelphia.

A police spokesperson told NBC10 the remains were “pretty decomposed” and likely in the bag for some time. However, investigators believe the child, who gender was immediately unclear, was between 2 and 4 years old.

Overhead footage of the scene showed multiple police vehicles near the scene with at least one officer standing guard in front of a lot.

The identity of the child and their cause of death remains under investigation, with several departments cooperating.

Police said they were looking into whether the body was connected to any missing persons cases.

This is a developing story.
