Serial rapist busted by food delivery app sentenced to 34 years to life

A Bronx rapist foiled by a quick-thinking victim who used a food delivery app to seek help was sentenced to 34 years to life for a series of 2022 attacks, Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced Friday.

Kemoy Royal, 34, raped two women and sexually assaulted a third at his Eastchester home over six days in June after convincing them to come over, said prosecutors.

On June 13, Royal met a 27-year-old woman in person after communicating for a few days over a dating app. The defendant forced her to perform sexual acts on him and performed sexual acts on the victim without her consent and raped her, according to the Bronx district attorney’s office.

The following day, Royal approached a 26-year-old woman on the street about 7 p.m., claiming he knew a friend of hers, prosecutors said. He then persuaded the woman to come back to his apartment — and when she arrived, he refused to let her leave and threatened to kill her.

He tried to force the woman to perform sex acts on him, bit her on the chest and strangled her before he let her go about six hours later, prosecutors said.

On June 18, Royal met with another woman he had connected with on a dating app when the 24-year-old came to his apartment.

The defendant strangled the victim, forced her to perform sexual acts, and raped her at knifepoint after taking her phone, holding her in his apartment, and threatening to kill her, said prosecutors.

The woman asked Royal not to kill her and told him he could rape her if he wanted to do so, according to WPIX. The defendant also urinated and spat on the woman, according to the TV station, and the 24-year-old reported seeing knives all over his home.

Early the following morning, the woman, desperate to escape, told Royal she wanted to order food, and placed an order through a food delivery app, asking the restaurant to call the police.

The woman ordered an Irish breakfast sandwich and cheeseburger from Chipper Truck Cafe in Yonkers about 5 a.m. with a hastily written note riddled with misspellings: “Please call police, his going to call me when u delivered come with the cones please don’t make it obvious,” News 12 Westchester reported at the time.

Despite the errors, the restaurant caught on and called Yonkers police, who dashed to Royal’s apartment, freed the woman and arrsted the suspect.

Bronx Supreme Court Justice Jeffrey Zimmerman sentenced Royal on Friday. The defendant was convicted by a jury in May on charges of rape, multiple counts of attempted criminal sexual act and predatory sexual assault after a two-day deliberation, according to prosecutors. After the completion of his prison sentence, Royal must register under the Sex Offender Registration Act.

“The defendant brutally sexually assaulted three women. Thanks to the quick thinking of one of the victims, we were able to hold this sexual predator accountable, and prevent him from terrorizing additional victims,” said Clark.
