Shannen Doherty was reportedly granted a posthumous divorce, in line with her last wishes to finalize her split from photographer Kurt Iswarienko before her death.
The bitterly estranged couple agreed to the final terms on Friday, and Doherty signed the documents, People reported. Iswarienko signed them on Saturday, the day the actress died of cancer at age 53.
However the inked agreement did not make it before a family law judge prior to her passing, TMZ reports, meaning Doherty was technically married when she died. This left her case in a bit of limbo, since jurisdiction passes from family law court to probate court if someone dies during a divorce, and probate judges do not finalize divorces, TMZ noted.
Doherty had waived spousal support on Friday and agreed to a “default or uncontested dissolution” of their marriage, People reported, meaning the pair’s divorce had been finalized outside of court.
The family law judge signed the papers on Monday, TMZ reports, posthumously entering the divorce judgment.
Doherty had first filed for divorce in April 2023, citing “irreconcilable differences” after learning of her third husband’s two-year affair.
She had been seeking $15,434 per month in spousal support as her acting-career residuals declined and she lost her SAG health insurance.
In late June, she accused Iswarienko of dragging out the divorce proceedings “in hopes that I die before he is required to pay me” — an accusation his attorneys denied.
