Marcus Rashford caught speeding at 104mph while ‘being followed’ as driving ban issued

Marcus Rashford has been hit with a six-month driving ban after being caught speeding on the M60 motorway, according to court documents. The Manchester United forward told a court that he believed he was being followed after passing an unmarked police car at a speed of 104mph in December 2023.

Rashford, driving a Rolls-Royce Cullinan Blue Shadow, was trailed by the police car and then spoken to about his speed, the arresting officer claimed in a statement provided to the court.

He is said to have informed the officer that he had been followed by a white vehicle before being told he should have contacted emergency services.

“Rashford said that the reason he was speeding was because he was being followed by a white vehicle and asked if I had seen it at the lights,” the statement read.

“He also said he thought that I was the white vehicle following him. I said I had not and would review the video footage from the vehicle. I also told him he needs to call 999 if he feels he is being followed.

“He said it happens all the time and that he would be calling us every day. I then told him to slow down, and he went on his way whilst I reviewed the footage.

“On reviewing the footage during the duration from when he overtook me up until stopping him on Eden Park Road, I have not seen any evidence of a white vehicle following him.

“I also noted that on realising he was being followed he has slowed down and his speed was within 5mph of the speed limit.”

Rashford appeared at Salford Magistrates Court by video link on Thursday, where he learnt his punishment after earlier pleading guilty in relation to a single speeding offence.

The 26-year-old was dealt a six-month driving ban as well as a £1,666 fine. He has also been ordered to pay a £666 victim surcharge and £120 in court costs.

Just a few months prior to the incident, Rashford crashed another of his Rolls-Royce cars after a 1-0 win at Burnley in September.

While driving home from Carrington in his £700,000 motor after returning from Turf Moor on the team bus, Rashford and a member of public were involved in a collision.

Emergency services were present at the scene of the incident, but both drivers escaped without injuries, and no arrests were made.

As well as his £700,000 Black Badge Wraith and £560,000 Cullinan Blue Shadow, Rashford also reportedly owns a £390,000 Black Badge Cullinan.

His impressive car collection also features a £350,000 Lamborghini Urus Performante and a £280,000 McLaren 765 Long Tail.

Rashford will be eyeing an improved 2024/25 season after struggling last term, and he is among the senior players to have returned to Carrington for pre-season on day one this summer.
