Less than a week after a TikTok detective made a daring assertion about Jay Slater’s fate and location, it seems the Spanish authorities appear to have confirmed it after a body was found.
Jay Slater vanished on June 17, having travelled from a rave to an isolated Airbnb in Tenerife’s mountains with two other individuals. The teenager from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, had uploaded a Snapchat video from Casa Abuela Tina, close to Masca village, just before his final phone conversation with friend Lucy Mae Law, then he was gone.
The search for the him was officially called off two weeks ago, nearly two weeks after he went missing, and his last known location was half a mile north of Masca village – yet a TikTok sleuth claimed he was still there just five days ago.
The sleuth, known as ChristopherTenerife or simply Chris, is a British expat who shared footage of his search through Masca’s rugged terrain, reports the Daily Star.
In the video, he expressed doubt over the thoroughness of previous searches, stating: “I don’t buy into the conspiracy theories, I don’t buy into someone took Jay. When you come and stand on this terrain, if that lad was heading for the coast I honestly think he’s had a bit of misfortune.”
He continued, “He’s had a fall, he’s had an accident or he’s dehydrated and passed out. I feel he’s in this ravine, in this area of Tenerife . . . missing I honestly believe that.”
In a statement released earlier today by the Guardia Civil, it was confirmed that the “lifeless body of a young man” was discovered in the Masca area, appearing to have “suffered an accident”.
They declared: “”Given the complexity of the case, the discovery has been possible thanks to the incessant and discreet search carried out by the Civil Guard during these 29 days, in which the natural space was preserved so that it would not be filled with curious onlookers.
“All indications indicate that it could be the young British man who has been missing since June 17 in the absence of full identification. The first investigations reveal that he could have suffered an accident fall in the inaccessible area where he was found.”
