Newcastle are reportedly considering inserting a clause into Dan Ashworth’s move to Manchester United which will prevent any of their stars heading to Old Trafford for a certain period of time. The Red Devils are desperate to acquire the services of the sporting director, though an agreement is not imminent.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe is desperate to shake up United’s ranks over the coming months after acquiring a stake in his boyhood club and assuming the responsibility of overseeing the footballing side of the operation.
The INEOS owner is keen to make his mark on and off the pitch, with plans underway for the restoration of Old Trafford and several managers being sounded out as potential replacements for Erik ten Hag, who continues to feel the heat in the dugout.
Ratcliffe is also keen to lay the foundations for future success, which begins with his directors. The 71-year-old has acquired the services of Omar Berrada from Manchester City, and talks are underway for Ashworth to also make the move to the Theatre of Dreams after his impressive stints with Newcastle and Brighton.
However, the iPaper report that a deal is not imminent between the Magpies and United, though ‘constructive talks’ have taken place. Newcastle CEO Darren Eales is said to have spoken with the Red Devils earlier this week but a fee is yet to be agreed upon.
The Magpies are keen to receive markedly more than the £3million fee that they paid Brighton for the services of Ashworth in 2022, though other clauses are also being discussed as part of the negotiations.
