Newborn baby boy found abandoned on Manhattan street near High Line

A newborn baby boy, his umbilical cord still attached, was found abandoned on a Chelsea street under the High Line early Thursday, cops said.

Two doormen working in buildings on W. 23rd St. near 10th Ave. found the infant left on the sidewalk at about 3:20 a.m. and called 911.

The baby was left a few doors down from EMS Station 7, which is also on W. 23rd St., officials said.

An EMS crew had just finished their shift when one of the doormen knocked on their window and asked for assistance, police said.

The newborn was conscious and alert and taken to Bellevue Hospital for a medical evaluation.

Cops were searching for the mother on Thursday.

Under New York’s Safe Haven Law people can safely leave children at fire houses, police stations, or hospitals as long as an appropriate person is notified when the baby is dropped off.
