Queens bicyclist critically injured by driver fleeing from police

A bicyclist was critically injured by a driver fleeing from police in Queens on Wednesday, police said.

Cops attempted to pull over a man behind the wheel of a gray Nissan Altima at the corner of 32nd St. and 31st Ave.  in Astoria around 4:35 p.m., cops said.

Instead of stopping, the driver sped off and crashed into the bicyclist about four blocks away at Crescent St. and 31st Ave.

Even after the crash, the driver kept going, leaving the critically injured man in the roadway.

Medics rushed the bicyclist to Elmhurst Hospital, where he was fighting for his life as of Wednesday evening.

Cops later took the driver into custody just under a mile away near Astoria Park, cops and sources said.  Charges against him were pending.

It wasn’t immediately clear why police were trying to pull the driver over.
