‘Nothing works better’ to remove toilet limescale without scrubbing than 1 household item

Limescale is a chalky substance that loves to attach itself to anything it comes in contact with.

From toilet bowls to shower screens and taps, limescale can build up on pretty much every surface that it comes in contact with.

Removing limescale from below the waterline in a toilet can be very tricky. After all, any cleaning products you add to the toilet are diluted by the toilet water.

While you could turn off your water supply and let the toilet fully drain to gain access, there is an easier method that works even without removing the water from your toilet bowl.

In a bid to help fellow cleaning enthusiasts battle toilet limescale, one woman took to the Mrs Hinch Army Cleaning Tips Facebook page to share her top tip.

Jasmine Folly posted a before picture that showed her toilet bowl completely brown from lamellae and an after photo with the toilet looking pristine and limescale-free.

To get the “incredible” results Jasmine achieved she used just one cheap item – citric acid.

She said: “Right, so I’ve seen quite a few people ask about cleaning limescale from toilets, so I thought I’d sacrifice my pride and post a before and after photo of just how well it works when you use citric acid.

“You just boil water, wait until it’s just about to boil, pour it into the toilet water so you don’t crack the bowl, sprinkle citric acid and leave.

“Someone else posted you can put citric acid in the kettle too which is a great idea.

“Below is after a few minutes of leaving the citric acid to sit in the bowl without scrubbing.”

After giving bleach and a few other items a go, Jasmine claimed that “nothing has worked better” to shift the limescale with ease.

Taking to the comments section, other group members claimed that they also use citric acid on their toilets and even kettles.
