Waitrose issues urgent food warning over popular bakery item due to undeclared allergen

Waitrose has issued an urgent recall notice for some of its popular baked products due to safety concerns.

Major supermarket chain Waitrose and Partners is recalling its Chocolate Mini Cupcakes because they contain walnuts, which are not mentioned on the label.

Some packs contain Coffee and Walnut Cupcakes, posing a potential health risk for anyone with a nut allergy.

The product being recalled has a best-before date of July 20 this year and comes in a box of nine.

Waitrose and Partners is advising customers to reach out to relevant allergy support organisations, who will inform their members about the recall.

The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers, explaining why the product is being recalled and what actions to take if they have purchased it.

Customers who have bought the product and have a walnut (nut) allergy are advised not to consume it.

Instead, they should return it to the store where it was purchased for a full refund.

For more information, customers can contact Waitrose Customer Care on 0800 188 884, Option 4, reports the Mirror.

On occasion, a food product may present an issue that renders it unfit for sale.

In such cases, the product may be ‘withdrawn’ (removed from shelves) or ‘recalled’ (customers are requested to return the product).

Food items may need to be withdrawn or recalled if they pose a risk to consumers due to missing or incorrect allergy labelling, or any other food allergy risk. When a food allergy risk is identified, the FSA will issue an Allergy Alert.
