Jay’s last known phone calls
Arnott says he is focusing his attention on the call to Brad after leaving an Airbnb he had been driven to in the early hours of the morning.
Jay then spoke to his friend Lucy Law around 8am saying the apartment he stayed at was “in the middle of nowhere” and he was planning to walk back to his own accommodation – which was an 11-hour walk.
The battery on Jay’s phone died shortly after, but Brad said he heard him slip during the call which indicated he was in rocky and uneven terrain.
Paul told reporters that he has spoken to Brad and is now seeking out signs in the terrain of someone slipping.
‘Breakages in the plant material’
The climber says he has been shown a picture of Jay’s shoes and has a picture of the track on his phone to aid the search.
“So I’m looking for any breakages in the plant material,” he said. “I’m just looking for any evidence that he’s been this way.”
Paul has a sizeable presence on TikTok, with over 260,000 following his @downtherapids account.
The social media star cancelled a charity event in Scotland to join the frantic search and says his mountaineering experience would allow him to explore locations even the rescue teams would struggle to reach with drones and dogs.
Spanish police are attempting to piece together Jay’s movements following the calls, but as he vanished in a rural area, CCTV footage and confirmed sightings have been thin on the ground.
