How to look younger is a term many people search for in hopes of minimising wrinkles, sagging and fine lines.
While investing in expensive retinol, collagen and peptide-packed skincare is one remedy, yoga is a practice many people overlook.
According to the Economic Times, incorporating targeted exercises into your routine can help in “maintaining a youthful appearance”.
Attending a guided yoga class is one way to reap the benefits but there are plenty of poses that can be done entirely for free in the comfort of your own home.
Express.co.uk has rounded up the most beneficial poses that can be done at any time of the day to help tighten skin and work muscles from head to toe.
Yoga poses to look younger
1. Downward dog
This pose involves an inverted V-shape, with your hands and feet on the ground, hips lifted, and heels pressing toward the floor.
In addition to strengthening the arms and legs, this pose is known to improve blood circulation to the face, which may help deliver oxygen and essential nutrients to the skin, potentially enhancing its health and “giving you a youthful glow”, claimed the Economic Times.
2. Bridge pose
Start by laying on the ground, then carefully lift your hips off the ground while keeping your shoulders and arms rooted to the floor.
The motion of lifting the hips off the ground specifically targets the neck and facial muscles. Regular practice of the Bridge Pose may help strengthen these muscles, potentially reducing the appearance of sagging skin and promoting a more youthful neck and jawline.
3. Fish pose
This is one of the more unique poses of the bunch which involves flexing the feet while arching the upper back and chest, all while keeping your bottom rooted to the floor. Lay down with your legs straight and feet flexed, then curve the back and lift your chest towards the ceiling while resting on your forearms.
This pose is believed to stretch the muscles in the face and neck, potentially helping to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Fish Pose may contribute to a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance through lengthening and toning muscles.
4. Shoulder Stand
Shoulder Stand is an inversion pose where you balance on your shoulders with your legs extended upward. It can be tricky to stay balanced, but taking it slowly will help.
Regularly practising this pose has many benefits as each time it reverses the direction of blood flow and stimulates circulation.
The Economic Times claimed: “This pose is thought to promote nourishment and rejuvenation of the facial skin. Improved blood flow may help in maintaining a youthful complexion and supporting overall skin health.”
