Arne Slot has revealed that Liverpool have already snapped up two of his assistant coaches from Feyenoord, as well as another from the United States national team. Slot has officially started work at Anfield after it was confirmed last month that he would be replacing Jurgen Klopp in the dugout.
The Dutchman will be joined by some familiar faces at Liverpool, with two of his Feyenoord coaches also making the journey to Merseyside. Sipke Hulshoff was their assistant manager, while he also served with the Netherlands national team before stepping down from that role earlier this year.
Slot will also be joined at Liverpool by Ruben Peeters, who is taking on the role of lead physical performance coach, while Fabian Otte will become the Reds’ new goalkeeping coach when he leaves the United States after this summer’s Copa America.
In his first interview with Liverpool’s official channels, Slot confirmed the additions to his coaching team before revealing that he has already been discussing further moves with sporting director Richard Hughes.
“Those are the first positions we filled in and I think we are still looking for one or two other positions,” explained Slot. “I just said in the beginning of the interview that Richard and me are calling each other a lot, not only about this but also about the positions we still have to fill in.”
Expanding on the conversations he has already had with Hughes, Slot said: “I’ve been in a lot of contact with staff members already, from people who are working here to the new staff members that are coming in.
“Of course, almost every day Richard and me are calling each other because we have to talk. This is also a very important phase for the new season, to make sure the team is ready, and we have to play in the pre-season.
“Me and Richard are going to work together when it comes to transfers but not only the two of us, there is a big backroom staff included in this as well. I think for me it is the way I have worked always and it for me is the ideal way of working because I can use the most of my time by working with the team.
“The time that is left will probably be a bit for the family and a bit to talk with Richard about how we can strengthen the team, but we already have a really strong team.”
Slot will be expected to come away with all three points in his first Premier League match after Liverpool were handed a favourable opening fixture. The Reds will travel to Portman Road to face newly-promoted Ipswich Town in August before further tests against Brentford and Manchester United.
