While the Yankees received good news from Aaron Judge’s tests on Tuesday night, Jasson Domínguez’s MRI revealed that the top prospect is dealing with an oblique strain.
Aaron Boone did not know how serious The Martian’s injury is, but it sounds like he’ll be sidelined for a bit once again.
“I know he’s got an oblique issue,” Boone, a late arrival to Tuesday’s win over the Orioles due to his son’s graduation, said after the game. “Still waiting to hear the severity from the MRI. But I know he does have some kind of an oblique strain.”
The 21-year-old Domínguez recently completed a rehab assignment after undergoing UCL surgery last September. However, the Yankees kept him at Triple-A, as Judge, Juan Soto and Alex Verdugo have solidified the team’s starting outfield.
Domínguez returned to the injured list at Triple-A on Sunday after feeling discomfort in his left side on Saturday. Over the weekend, Boone said that an awkward check swing led to the IL stint.
“It was enough to put him on the IL right away at least,” Boone said at the time.
Domínguez hit .356/.404/.609 with six home runs and 13 RBI over 23 total minor league games before getting hurt. He slashed .389/.405/.639 with two homers in nine games after his rehab assignment was transferred to Triple-A.
With Everson Pereira (UCL surgery) also on the IL, the Yankees don’t have any healthy minor league outfielders on their 40-man roster. Fortunately for them, they don’t need one right now, as Judge avoided a fracture after taking a fastball to his left hand on Tuesday night.
