Tyson Foods heir John Tyson arrested again, suspended as CFO

The chief financial officer for Tyson Foods was suspended by the company Thursday following an early morning arrest for allegedly driving while intoxicated.

John R. Tyson, 34, was arrested by University of Arkansas police in Fayetteville just after 1:30 a.m. and charged with driving under the influence, careless driving and making an illegal turn.

He was released on bond several hours later and is scheduled to appear in court on July 15.

Tyson Foods said Thursday the CFO had been suspended and that Curt Calaway would replace him on an interim basis. Tyson is also an executive vice president at the Arkansas-based meat processing company.

Tyson is the great-grandson of the company’s founder, John W. Tyson, and son of the current chairman, John H. Tyson.

The incident marked the second time Tyson was arrested while intoxicated.

In November 2022 — three years after joining the family company and two months after being named CFO — he was arrested in Fayetteville after drunkenly entering a random woman’s unlocked home and falling asleep in a bed.

The woman, who did not know Tyson, found him and called police. After police determined Tyson had not been invited into the home, he was arrested and charged with criminal trespass and public intoxication.

Tyson pleaded guilty to both charges and was ordered to pay fines and court fees.
