British Gas has launched a new energy bill savings scheme this summer to help customers reduce costs and contribute to a greener grid.
Through its new PeakSave Green Flex events, customers will get half-price electricity during periods of abundant renewable energy, such as when it is very sunny or windy.
PeakSave Green Flex events will offer one or two hours of half-price electricity, and customers will be notified by email the day before or on the morning of the event.
All PeakSave customers will be invited to the events, however, they must opt-in to take part.
British Gas said it would use its own forecasting to set the events to test the potential savings and impact on the grid with the scheme over this summer.
The discount is available to new and existing PeakSave customers, and all savings will appear as a credit on customers’ energy bills.
There is no obligation to shift your normal activities on the scheme, but households can save more by doing more energy-intensive tasks during a Green Flex event.
All PeakSave customers will continue to get half-price electricity every Sunday without needing to opt in.
To take part, British Gas customers can book their free smart meter installation to share half-hourly data.
PeakSave was launched in December 2022 to reward customers for better energy usage to support a greener energy supply.
So far, British Gas has paid over £11million to over 600,000 customers taking part in the scheme.
Customers have saved 326 tonnes of carbon emissions and shifted 11,799 MWh of electricity to Sundays.
