Steve Bannon ordered to begin prison term on July 1

The 70-year-old far right-wing pundit was convicted for contempt of Congress in 2022 over his refusal to cooperate with the House Select Committee investigating the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

“All hell is going to break loose tomorrow,” he warned on his “War Room” internet program before that assault. “It’s not going to happen like you think it’s going to happen.”

A U.S. District judge in Washington D.C. told Bannon to report to jail on July 1, but left room for him to delay that surrender date by seeking a stay, according to the Associated Press. He was sentenced to 4 months behind bars.

Bannon has remained free while appealing his conviction. Prosecutors requested that his sentence start immediately after a three-judge federal appeals panel ruled last that Bannon’s challenges were without merit.
