Drivers can now get their hands on Sir Terry Wogan's one-of-a-kind classic Mini

A classic car auctioneer is to sell an incredibly unique Mini that was previously owned by the broadcasting legend Sir Terry Wogan.

Sir Terry, best known for his long-running BBC Radio 2 breakfast programme and TV chat show, commissioned the Rover Mini in 1996, with reports stating it cost around £75,000.

Available from Classic Car Auctions for £40,000, the unusual Mini was owned by the Wogan family until 2019, having covered just 20,200 miles.

Compared to a standard Mini of the era, the broadcaster’s ‘Mulliner Specification’ example features elements of a 1960s Cooper example, such as a more rounded grille and chrome bumpers with overrriders.

Those retro styling cues are contrasted by a very modern set of glossy black alloy wheels and metallic Graphite Grey bodywork.

Inside, Sir Terry’s Mini was also refitted with a number of additional features to make it feel particularly luxurious.

To match the seats, the door cards and dashboard are covered in black, quilted leather, whilst the traditional steering wheel has been replaced with a sportier alternative.

Given his line of work, it is also no surprise that Sir Terry’s former car featured a high-end stereo system and more powerful speakers in the doors.

However, perhaps the most interesting thing about the radio DJ’s Mini can be found under the bonnet, with the vehicle curiously ordered with a Honda 1.6 performance engine.

Whilst Classic Car Auctions has not shared how fast it makes the Mini, the same engine in the larger Honda CR-X SiR could accelerate from 0-60mph in just 6.9 seconds.

Nevertheless, the model is still relatively easy to drive, featuring an automatic gearbox and, unusual for a classic Mini, power steering.
