Following the success of Knives Out and Glass Onion, Rian Johnson has penned a third murder mystery movie.
Once again Daniel Craig will star as Southern private detective Benoit Blanc in a new case set for Netflix in 2025.
Just like the first two films, this one’s title is the name of a pop song, taking inspiration from U2’s Wake Up Dead Man.
Most of the ensemble cast are yet to be announced but two have, while a couple of others have reportedly leaked.
And one of the latter has been a bookies’ favourite to play the next James Bond after Craig.
According to Deadline, The Crown’s Josh O’Connor and Priscilla’s Cailee Spaeny have been cast in Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.
Additionally, What’s On Netflix claims that Lindsay Lohan and Tom Hardy have had discussions too. But it’s possible those may have fallen through.
Whatever the case, casting Hardy opposite Craig would no doubt send fans into meltdown given he’s long been one of the bookies’ favourites to be cast as the next James Bond.
Upon Knives Out 3’s announcement, writer-director Johnson tweeted: “I love everything about whodunnits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is. There’s a whole tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie, and getting to explore that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc movies. We’re about to go into production on the 3rd one, and I’m very, very excited to share the title, which gives a little hint of where it’s going.”
Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery hits Netflix in 2025.
