2 dead, 3 hurt after ‘disgruntled employee’ opens fire at Pa. linen shop

A shooting at a family-owned linen shop just outside Philadelphia Wednesday morning killed two people and injured three others, authorities said.

The “absolute tragedy” occurred around 8:30 a.m. at Delaware County Linen in Chester, just outside Philadelphia, District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer told reporters in a news conference.

The suspect, who has not been named, is being described as a “disgruntled employee” who walked into the shop and shot five co-workers, Stollsteimer said.

The Associated Press described the suspect as a former employee.

Two victims were killed in the shooting and three were rushed to a hospital — at least one of them in critical condition.

“We are hopeful that they’re able to survive,” Stollsteimer said.

A motive for the shooting, which took place inside and outside the establishment, remains under investigation.

The suspected shooter attempted to flee the scene but was later captured by police in a “vehicle stop,” Chester Police Commissioner Steven Gretsky told reporters.

A gun was recovered after the suspect was pulled over, police said. However, it’s not immediately clear if that was the same gun used in the shooting.

One of the five victims appeared to be a “supervisor” at the business, Chester Mayor Stefan Roots said at a press conference late Wednesday morning. Authorities have not confirmed whether that supervisor was among the fatalities.

Delaware County Linen is a full-service linen company serving restaurants, hotels, country clubs, universities and other local businesses in Pennsylvania and neighboring states.

The “family-grown” company was founded in 1988 with clients in Southeast Pennsylvania but has since expanded to areas in New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland.
